Some Suggestions Regarding a Scripture Memory System

(Following at the end, is a live link to the Navigator 's Topical Memory System)

Years ago I used this system and have greatly profited from it. It may not be the one for you. It is available in English and Spanish. And the system comes in 3 units. Each unit is about 60 memory cards, costing about $10 plus shipping. The units cover different topics. They furnish instruction booklets with the packets of verses.

Now the basic concept is that the verse is written on one side of a card with the broad topic heading, at thr top. Salvation, Christian Growth, Judgment etc. Then on the back side of the card is written the Bible reference where the verse is found.
You plan to memorize no more than 3 verses a week. You memorize the topic, the verse and the reference. You use the cards to "test" yourself by going through the growing deck of cards, (3 the first week, 6 the second week, 9 the third etc.)

You test by going through the deck of cards seeing the references, then "saying", aloud if appropriate or in your mind, the correct topic and verse. Always say the reference before and after the verse. Then you reverse the procedure and looking at the verse, cover it and quote the reference, topic, verse and reference. Use the card to make sure you are correct in all the quotations.

Now, you can build your own system following the basic concept, making your own "flash cards". The Navigator cards were about the size of a standard business card, so the current packet you are drilling on, can be carried in your pocket, to have handy to drill in spare moments during the day.

Here is a web site with more detail on "How To" memorize and furnishes a topical list of 100 scripture verses that you can click on, copy/paste to Word Pad, reducing type size for printing; to make up your cards.

As you are reading your Bible, select the special verses to include in your "system".
For instance, under the topic of "Salvation" you might include; Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, John 3:16, John 5:24, John 14:6, Hebrews 9:27 and Revelations 3:20.

Doing this, you have a series of verses to use in sharing your faith with others.

As you progress, you will be reviewing the entire deck of flash cards, perhaps 12 to 15 cards. Adding 3 new verses a week may be too many for you to maintain. Keep reviewing a small deck until you have it down "cold"! Then start another deck. On a weekly schedule, go back and review all the older decks that you have down "cold".

You might "pair up" with a friend and drill each other holding the other's deck as he/she is quoting reference, topic, verse, reference.

It is very important to tie the reference to the verse. You will be very glad you did as time goes by.

Hope this is helpful.
